"I'm Just A Summer Girl..."

Haha, not really =P I'm into pretty much all the seasons.

But I am excited for the summer, other than homework, quizzes, and tests out of the way, hopefully I'll do some good stuff this summer. Something productive, you know? Haha.

So first thing I'm really hoping I'll get to do is INTERalliance. It's an info technology camp for 5 days but I heard it's about problem solving.. Haha I'll update if I do get to go so I can write about it. But first I'll have to get accepted... *crosses fingers!*

Second, summer camp that gives you 3 college credits.
XU's Jump Start is "a special two-week, residential program for high- school sophomores and juniors who are interested in studying pre-medicine [...] and experiencing life on campus." Is thatt cool or what? It'd be so tight to go... and praise God I already got accepted. Only catch, it's around $2850 if I'm not mistaken and for XU... honestly that's not worth it for me. Like ND (obviously more selective and I'd have to be 16 to even apply) has this thing too and it costs about the same. We'll see how good the scholarship is but the admission person said that there is no full scholarship. We'll see, I guess?

Backup plan... I'm also applying for the XU Summer Honors which is similar to the above except not specifically for those interested in pre-med. "Summer Honors Institute is a two-week residential program open to gifted students from Ohio high schools. You can live on campus, take a course from Xavier's top academic programs and earn three college credits." It surprisingly only costs $500. That's pretty sweet but we'll see, not sure if I really wanna do this one XD

But if I don't get to do either of these XU stuff I'll get to go to Maryland! The CFC conference is Jul 3-5 and the XU stuff starts on the 5th. It's a bummer if I don't get to go to Maryland for XU... is it worth the sacrifice? Wah haha I don't know! =P I reaaaally wanna go to Maryland though so I might as well just do that. I need a vacation lol. Wait, I'll have to check and make sure my parents are planning on going!!

Talk about conference... OH MAN CFC-YOUTH CONFERENCE! It's Jul 24-26 in Chicago =) I'm excited. If I get accepted to INTERalliance I hope I get the one that begins on the 27th. That's right after conference too but that's the best week...

My yeah-dude-I-wish plan is to go to Pescara, Italy where Aisa is haha. Like that would just be SOLID but I wouldn't be allowed to go by myself for sure =( but if I were to book now, the ticket is only $600. For serious. Is thatt sweet or what?

Whooo, goodness. A lot of stuff for the summer, whoa and I need to do SAT prep classes that costs a gazilion dollar haha. Just kidding. It should be worth it? XD

Sorry that was pretty long! BTW, I've been watching American Idol. That's pretty surprising because last year David Archuleta was the only reason why I did. I guess I grew to like the show? Anyways so this year... I really like KRIS ALLEN!! Lol oh goodness. He has a pretty cute face and a melting voice lol and I'm a sucker for the two combination XD He's 23 but he's married >.< hahahah, naw jk I really don't care. But just thought I'd take note of that! haha.

2009 Already!

Oh man, it’s almost the end of January! I kinda feel like life's moving too fast sometimes. But it's no biggie b/c all is well now!!!! :D

But anyways, reflecting upon 2008, wow, so much went on. Ups and downs, obviously, but it was amazing overall b/c I know those bad times only made me stronger. And the ups… I’m just so thankful for them.

On top of my list is obviously going to SUA. I never would’ve guessed where I’d be right now if I was asked a year ago! It was so unexpected, but looking back I really should’ve known and believed that it was possible ^_^ Starting school was pretty stressful and I missed my friends so much cuz I couldn’t go to youth group anymore. Well and no more co-op. But God helped so much and things fell into place.

I’m not going through each one of my 2008 blessings in this blog. Big stuff: Helping with the Kids Camp!! I had a BLAST. Fun youth camps. Pre-Con. Amazingly awesome summer! But I just wanna say, July 29th was funnnn.

In short, 2008 was… lovely. I think I overuse the word amazing but that’s actually a better word to describe my 2008 =P

2009 started kind of interesting so believe it or not I never made my resolutions XD 2009 is looking pretty sweet now though, so I shall be making those resolutions! Haha, they say “better late than never.” Like I know for one, I don’t want to be fretting so much anymore this year. Like seriously I used to complain all the time last year, especially the last half XD I think that’s all for now. PG!

Dream Big and Expect Goodness

Our expectations set the limits of our lives. Some people don't like to expect anything good, that way if it doesn't happen then they're not disappointed. But if you're not expecting something good, you aren't releasing your faith. If it doesn't happen the way you want it, or at your time table, just know that God has something better in store!

Don't go through life trying to protect yourself from a disappointment by not expecting anything good. You might say, "Well I'm not expecting anything bad..." but really, it's not enough just to 'not expect anything bad'. Also from the song it says that we settle for safe and lose ourselves along the way. You can't be neutral in your expectations and have God's best.

So are you aggressively expecting something good? Are you expecting your dreams to come to pass? Do you go out of the house expecting God's favor? You may say "What if I do but nothing good happens?" Well, what if you do and something good DOES happen? Pay attention to what you're expecting because nothing is gonna happen if we don't first believe ^_^ Start expecting goodness and mercy to follow you everywhere you go!

Every Day Is A New Adventure

It's always a new adventure. There are no guarantees. You can never know what is going to come at you, and sometimes it's pretty horrible. Life is not always going to turn out the way you expect. You just have to be strong to survive, and you can never give in without a fight. Quitters don't even stand a chance.

If things aren't looking good now, don't worry because God is in control. No weapon formed against you will prosper because you have a good God who is on your side. So keep loving life, good or bad! Things will be better because God will change the situation once you change your thinking ^_^

Notre Dame Fighting Irish!

On Friday, June 20th the YFC seniors and sophomores got together at Gabe's house because Richard and Joyce offered to have a night talking about the University of Notre Dame and some tips. I decided to blog about it because my note is all messy and I don't wanna lose it! Haha.

Well we started with yummy dinner. Oh, right, playing scrabble before that ^_^ Alright so when we began, the seniors did some introduction as to what colleges they're looking at, what major their interest is, etc. Funny - when Paolo started his introduction, Joyce went "Oh, you're the one who's gonna be on your... tenth college visit, right?" Haha.

The average SAT scores for students accepted is 1350-1490 out of 1600. ACT is 31-34 out of 36. Obviously that is no guarantee of acceptance since pretty much everyone's scores are really high.

The dorms are unisex. There is a chapel to every dorm with weekly Mass. A nun stays in each ladies' dorm and a priest stays, of course in the guys' dorm. No opposite sex allowed in dorms past midnight on weekdays and 2 a.m. on weekends. They can be back at 10 a.m.

Why Notre Dame?

It is faith based, over 90% of student body are Catholics.
Strong academic program
Unbelievable alumni network - they have clubs in every state in the US
Career placement - they really help you out to get a good job once
Broad study on the first year
Polite student body
Nurture great adults
FOOTBALL!

ND alumnae will guide seniors who are interested ^_^

Notes about ND, however...

It's located in Southbend which a really small town - but then you spend most of your time in campus
Lack of diversity - 75% caucasians
Weather - really cold in the winter!

The drinking rate is low and ND is REALLY strick with their rules. "Bad students" either leave or get kicked out!

Applications

They are non binding ^_^ Online application is preferred. Early Action is due Nov. 1 - Less pool to look at, shows interest, no denial because you'll get a second chance automatically with the regular pool. Regular Action is due Dec. 31 (you really don't want to be stressing about college applications on Christmas, do you? lol) - you only get one chance. And BTW, out of 15,000 applications, only 1,985 are accepted o.O

*Don't do it too early. They want to see you actually 'roll' in the activities/clubs etc. that you write in your resume. October is a good time.

* Don't take admission personally. Colleges look for certain things.

If you're not a good tester, say, in SAT... compensate with something you're really good at. Dedication, loyalty? Leadership? Your initiative?

Only 1 recommendation letter from teacher suggested. Make friends with your counselor so you'll stand out.

Reflect who you are in your application! So to sum it up: SAT (gotta be the best!), extra curricular, 1 letter of recommendation, and a personal statement. Don't be apathetic, show passion for something in the world.

AZNSENSAZN! Maybe write about how that made you feel different. Maybe the culture? Experiences others don't have? It should show who you are.

Ok. So there will be no formal interview. But meeting the admission office, you have to show leadership: context, action, and result. Communicate thoughtfully and clearly.

Words of Wisdom

1. Presence is EVERYTHING. Dress to impress, firm handshake. Eye contact shows confidence ^_^ Engagement: you want confidence, not arrogance! Keep a steady voice, tone and volume.

2. Be motivated. Take action (know what you need to know, ask questions). Know what you want and make a plan to get it. Don't wait for someone to give it to you, seek it out and get it. Life won't just offer it to you. In the end, it's just you and God.

3. Have a point of view / Be passionate. The worst thing is apathy.

4. Know who you are, don't be generic. Showcase yourself! Recognize your strengths and opportunity areas. Expect to evolve ^_^

5. Believe in yourself. No one will believe in you if you don't. You don't need to be perfect; no one is anyway. Your confidence will be magnetic.

Ladies, Guard Your Heart

"Above all else, guard your heart . . . " -Proverbs 4:23

The principle of this is that you must guard your heart so that it does not become entangled emotionally without the protection of a covenant.

Remember, whoever he is, if he is not your husband, you have no business submitting to him in any area, especially if he wants you to engage in a little physical affection when there is no fence of covenantal protection around the relationship. Virginity is a priceless inheritance you bring into marriage.

You must guard your imagination if you want to guard your heart. Don’t feed a lonely heart with cheesy romance novels or chick flicks and fantasize about the men or the relationships described. This can quickly become lust—lusting to be lusted after.

Don’t allow yourself to imagine someone is interested in you when he is just being friendly.
Don’t imagine that he had a tender look when he said hello to you, when he was really just giving you a polite greeting.

In other words, do not develop wild crushes. If the man in question shows an interest elsewhere, you will be hurt, and depending on how much you indulged your imagination, you may be devastated. Be realistic about the men who show you attention. If you are too eager for a relationship, you can imagine he is godlier, funnier, sweeter, smarter, older, or taller than he really is. If you have to talk yourself into someone, you are not being realistic about this man. Don’t get desperate! Don’t allow yourself to get involved in an inappropriate relationship because you are lonely. Don’t look for a man as a ticket out.

Just because a man shows an interest is no good reason to assume he is the one for you. There is no fire. Think about it. Get input from someone who knows you. Take your time. Don’t fling yourself in his arms as soon as he shows his hand. Women are sometimes in love with being in love, longing for a relationship more than they long to please God. Marriage is not an end in itself; it is a means of glorifying God. There is one thing worse than being single: being married to the wrong man.

Look for likemindedness in a man: do you agree doctrinally? Are you similar culturally? Is he attractive to you?

Be realistic, trust God, and be content.

Theology of the Body - Teaser?

First of all, did you know that the #1 most googled word is sex? And #2 most searched is God? Oh yeah. So what is the connection between sexuality and spirituality? Why is mankind so interested in both? And if you understand your sexuality, spirituality will make much more sense. As you deepen your faith, you will begin to see the meaning and the beauty of sex.

Well I'm pretty stoked for the Theology of the Body for Teens the CFC-Youth Cincinnati will be learning in the last 6 weeks this summer! This will answer questions such as:
• Why did God give us our sexual desires?
• What is the difference between love and lust?
• Can Christ bring healing to me if I’ve already “messed up”?
• How far is “too far”?
• How can teens remain pure in our oversexed culture?
• Is there any hope for overcoming lust and pornography?

"We all desire love. And through exploring the designs of the desires of our body as men and women, we discover that we actually desire to be with the Source of all love - who is God himself. And this is one of the things that John Paul the II explored in his teaching called Theology of the Body. It's all wrapped up in 12 chapters that could literally change your life if you're open! So get ready to explore love, sex, and the meaning of life in a way you've never done before."

Theology of the Body - Girls Segment

"MODESTY. It speaks of this confidence that you know that the best qualities that you have as a woman are those things that are unseen, the virtues that you possess -- your talents, your gifts.

"When it comes to immodesty, from a guy's perspective, frankly it looks like you're 'man begging'. "Please look at me, somebody look at me!" I know you long for love but my fear is that a generation of young women are being raised up now who don't know how to relate to guys in a non sexual way. And I understand you have a desire to feel good about yourself, but not to have that happen at his expense. Cause you know, so many guys will try to experience pleasure at your expense. And you want something better. You know it at the depths of your heart.

"Now your question may be "So where are all these good guys? I'm ready for a healthy mature relationship with a guy who gets some character but the fact is, I can't find any of them! Am I supposed to wait till I'm in the nursing home for this guy?!" And there's this feeling of discouragement, of frustration or hopelessness. The guys will look at you but you know in your heart, this is not the attention that you long for.

My first reaction to that was, yeah right... how is that light and easy?! In our lifes, the burden may actually be quite heavy. Then why did Jesus say it was light?

Even if the burden is heavy, we will find it possible to carry it because Jesus is there to help us, making it light. So I think that's how He meant it.

Oh I went across a Facebook bumper sticker today that says "You are given this life because you're strong enough to live it."

And God is the strength of my heart . . . and my portion forever, forever ^_^

Why Worship God?

The fact that God is so good that he is worthy of all praises is undeniable. But does He need our praise? What does that do to Him?

I learned that when we praise and worship God, we're not actually doing it for Him. He doesn't need it... We're doing it more for ourselves. Through praise and worship, we are reminding ourselves of how marvelous God has been to you. So take time to do that and we'll less likely to take things for granted ^_^
